Scholarship Awards

San Francisco–Peninsula Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. is committed to improving the quality of education for youth living in the San Francisco Peninsula communities. One of the chapter’s goals is to encourage and support promising students, both young women and men, with their aspirations for attaining higher education. The chapter awards scholarships to graduating high school seniors that support their acquisition of a Bachelor’s degree.

Many of these students have gone on to graduate from Stanford University, the University of California at Berkeley and Santa Barbara, Spelman College, Tuskegee University and other fine institutions of higher learning across the country. The annual scholarship supports two full semesters or three quarters of academic work and is renewable up to a total of four years. Funds are awarded annually after the student meets our scholarship criteria. Scholarship recipients are provided educational and emotional support throughout the four-year period that they are eligible for the scholarship award.

In 1979, the first scholarship was awarded to Stanford University student Marcel Thomas. Since then, the chapter has awarded over $200,000 in scholarships and book stipends. Current scholarship funding for three of the recipients is administered through the Delta San Francisco-Peninsula Foundation, which was established in 1999 to assist the chapter with long-term scholarship support and expand the chapter’s ability to secure funding from corporate sponsors and/or individuals. The Foundation is a 501 (C) (3) non-profit organization.
